Who we are
Behind The 22 is a mutual-aid and research organization.
Not advice, not a claim, not an emergency service
Nothing on this site is medical advice, legal advice, or a VA/DoD claim of any kind. No information here should be used as a substitute for consulting a qualified medical or legal professional about your own situation.
Our screeners and tools are organization, pattern-identification, and self-advocacy supports. They do not diagnose any condition. Using this site or contacting us does not create a doctor–patient or attorney–client relationship.
This site and our staff are not an emergency or crisis service. In an emergency, call 911. If you’re in crisis, call or text 988, then press 1.
Medication information
Nothing on this site tells you to start, stop, or change a medication or a dose. Talk to your prescriber or pharmacist before you make any change. Information on this site about FDA boxed warnings and lethal means safety is general and educational. It does not tell you whether a particular medication is right or safe for you.
Legacy information
Wishes you record on this site or in a BT22 tool are a record of your wishes. They aren’t a will, a trust, a beneficiary designation, or an advance directive, and they don’t change who inherits anything or who has legal authority. Brain donation, whole-body donation, and similar programs have their own registration, consent, and time limits. Talk to an attorney about your own situation.
How we handle case information
Case information we collect is handled under a written consent protocol and is used, in de-identified and aggregated form, to identify recurring patterns — never to authorize us to contact any agency, provider, or third party on a person’s behalf without separate, explicit permission.
Planned features
Some features described on this site, including the Universal Case Manager and its versions for different roles, Medication Safety, BT22 Live, Legacy Access, expanded tools and system connections for professionals, profile review and alerts, the Pocket Advocate, Responder Access, and the Oversight Portal, are planned and are not yet available. Descriptions may change as we build them.
Information about accreditation and claims help
Information on this site about VA accreditation and warning signs is general and educational. It is not legal advice, and it does not tell you whether a particular person or company is acting lawfully. Check accreditation with VA, and talk to a qualified professional about your own situation.
Our research
We build our research from public documentation and evidence, and we want it checked. We work to be accurate, but errors can happen. If you find one, please tell us and we’ll look into it.
Outside links
We link to third-party sites for convenience. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content.
